Fire-resistant board, also known as fire-retardant board, has the scientific name of thermosetting resin-impregnated paper high-pressure laminate, abbreviated as HPL (Decorative High-pressure Laminate). It is made from base paper (titanium powder paper, kraft paper) through a process of impregnation with melamine and phenolic resin, and then formed under high temperature and high pressure. It is a fire-resistant building material with decorative surfaces, offering a wide range of surface colors, textures, and special physical properties.
Applications of Fire-resistant Board
Fire-resistant board is widely used in interior decoration, furniture, kitchen cabinets, laboratory countertops, stair treads, exterior walls, and other fields. It only needs to be firmly pressed against other board materials. When selecting, you can have the manufacturer process it according to your size and color requirements. Because it is a surface treatment, fire-resistant board can be processed very flexibly, resulting in many color variations, giving us a wide range of choices. Compared to traditional materials such as stone and wood, fire-resistant board is a mechanically produced product, so its performance is more stable, and it will not undergo discoloration, cracking, water penetration, etc.

Differences Between Fire-resistant Board and Melamine Board
Fire-resistant board and melamine board are common board materials in the furniture market, but many people don't understand the differences between the two materials. We will briefly introduce them here.
Fire-resistant board, whose standard name is fire-retardant board, is just a common name. However, it is not truly fireproof, but only has certain fire-resistant properties.
Fire-resistant board uses particleboard or density board as the base material, which is then bonded with a fire-resistant board veneer under pressure. The processing procedure of fire-resistant board is more complex than that of melamine board, and there are also differences in their usage: fire-resistant board needs to be spray-glued and cold-pressed before it can be cut and used, while melamine board can be directly cut. Moreover, the fire-resistant board veneer is composed of the following layers: surface layer, color paper, base paper (multiple layers of kraft paper). The surface paper and color paper have been impregnated with melamine resin, making the fire-resistant board wear-resistant and scratch-resistant. The base paper increases the impact resistance and flexibility of the fire-resistant board.
Melamine board is made by immersing paper with different colors or wood grain patterns in melamine, drying and solidifying in the air, and finally adhering it to the surface of the base material, and then forming it under heat and pressure. Melamine board has good wear resistance, scratch resistance, flame resistance, and environmental friendliness, making it a good furniture material. The processing procedure of melamine board is simple; it can be directly cut after being made, without the need for secondary processing. Manufacturers only need to cut and edge the board, making it an economical and practical material.
The fire-resistant board veneer is thicker than the melamine board veneer. In terms of performance, fire-resistant board has better wear and scratch resistance than melamine board. In terms of Price, because melamine board is simple to process, its cost is lower than fire-resistant board. Although both melamine board and fire-resistant board use melamine resin in their selection of materials, different thicknesses and structures can lead to different properties.
